All Local 9 Members are REQUIRED to hold a Minnesota Elevator Journeyworkers License, and will need to complete 16 hrs. of continuing education (CE) every 2 years. 12 hrs. Elevator related and 4 hrs. NEC related.
All Local 9 Members that hold a WI Elevator Mechanic License will need to complete 12 hrs. of Elevator related continuing education (CE) every 2 years.
All Local 9 Apprentices are required to hold a Minnesota Unlicensed License and must complete 2 hours of Elevator related continuing education (CE) every year.
These continuing education (CE) classes are held at the Union Hall the second Saturday of each month at 8:00 AM

All NEIEP Apprentices are REQUIRED by the US Federal Department of Labor & MN Department of Labor and Industry (MN DOLI) to submit Monthly On The Job Training Forms (OJT).

Article XIX
Par 6. The Parties direct NEIEP to establish, effective January 1, 2023, a mandatory continuing education program for all Elevator Constructors with a Mechanic Exam pass date on or after July 9, 2022.
(a) Effective January 1, 2023, and each calendar year thereafter, each Mechanic shall be required to successfully complete at least eight (8) hours of online continuing education from the curriculum published annually by NEIEP. Continuing education courses may be taken online or in person to meet the requirement.
(b) NEIEP will develop, publish, and disseminate the specified mandatory online continuing education curriculum for 2023 and on an annual basis thereafter the updated curriculum for the subsequent calendar year.
(c) NEIEP will monitor compliance for all participants and upon successful completion will pay the participants' current Mechanic rate for their home Local (excluding benefit contributions) for all continuing education hours required to successfully complete the continuing education curriculum by the Mechanic.
(d) A Mechanic (including Assistant Mechanic) that does not comply with the continuing education requirement(s) of Article XIX Educational Fund shall not receive the wage rate increase, as described in Article V, Par. 2, until completion of the required continuing education curriculum.
(e) Any Elevator Constructor who was a Mechanic on or before July 9, 2022, is grandfathered. These Mechanics have the option of taking continuing education, but it is not mandatory. Grandfathered Mechanics who complete the specified continuing education curriculum set forth in Par. 6(b) for a calendar year shall be paid in accordance with Par. 6(c) of this Article.
